Trainee Criteria
- Annually, the NCRTP-HepC extends awards to provide transdisciplinary training and stipend support to both Canadian and foreign individuals involved with hepatitis C research, who are university graduates at various stages of their academic and professional career. This program and the stipends it provides are meant to further trainees' knowledge and understanding of hepatitis C.
- A 2 year commitment (minimum) to the program is expected of all trainees.
- Trainees pursuing their PhD can apply to extend their funding for an extra 2 years beyond the original 2 year commitment.
- Trainees must be full-time students for their duration in the program.
- Trainees admitted into the program are expected to take part in a variety of activities. For more information on the program requirements, visit the Training Curriculum page.
- The graduate program or post-doctoral position chosen by the applicant must be relevant to hepatitis C research.
- Relevant programs can include clinical, basic, and social sciences, nursing, economics, public health, health administration, etc.
- The applicant must either be currently supervised or will be supervised by an NCRTP-HepC mentor for their graduate program or post-doctoral position.
- Applicants with non-NCRTP-HepC supervisors can also apply to the program. The applicant's current supervisor must agree to co-supervise you with another NCRTP mentor.
- The trainee must contact the mentors they are interested in working with directly.
- Foreign applicants may apply to study in Canada once they have been accepted by one of the mentors.
- Each mentor can only have 2 trainees in the program at any time. Communicate with your proposed mentor to make sure they have the space for you.
- Further details on eligibility requirements and the application process can be found in the award guide.
Summer Students
- Interested summer students must, at a minimum, be pursuing a Canadian baccalaureate degree with some relevance to Hepatitis C (e.g. Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Health Sciences, etc.).
- Every summer student must be supervised by an NCRTP-HepC mentor.
- Interested applicants should send their full curriculum vitae to the administrative coordinator. The coordinator will forward your information to potential supervisors on your behalf.
- During their time with the NCRTP-HepC (usually 2-4 months), summer students work closely with one of the program’s mentors. They will arrange to work on a small project.
- Upon completion of the program, the students must submit a short report discussing their project, its implications regarding hepatitis C research, and how the experience affected them personally.
