    Biography  Dr. Jenny Heathcote is a practicing hepatologist at University Health Network, University of Toronto. She is also head of the division of patient based clinical research in the Research Institute of the Toronto Western Hospital, where she is a Senior Scientist. She has been conducting clinical research since she received her training in hepatology in the UK in the early 1970s. Her research interests are the natural history and treatment of chronic viral hepatitis (B and C). More recently she has developed collaborative research studies with genetics and genomics laboratories so that she can better understand the pathogenesis of viral hepatitis.

    She has mentored and published work with close to 100 individuals interested in research in hepatology since arriving in Canada in 1979 and was the original PI for the National Canadian Program in Hepatitis C and has received both National and International awards given in recognition of her academic achievements in liver diseases research.
